The Historic Red Villa

The Historic Red Villa at Montofoli Wine Estate is a stunning example of Greek neoclassical architecture from the late 19th century. The Red Villa was built to host the “high-flying” guests of its time.
An extensive restoration by the current owning family has preserved this landmark building as a tribute to the estate’s heritage, seamlessly combining modern amenities with history. The villa boasts high ceilings, marble floors and bathrooms, a handmade-tiled floor in the historic kitchen with a preserved open corner fireplace, period furniture, a Murano chandelier and appliques, and an antique Austrian craftwork chandelier. Plush anatomic bedding and luxurious linen ensure the utmost comfort of the guests.
Large windows throughout the villa allow for abundant natural light. The villa opens from sitting area onto the eastern covered patio with tables, leading to the green garden with a large lawn, perfect for relaxation or children’s playtime. From the kitchen, one can access the west terrace, featuring two marble tables for lunching and, three steps up, a large stone table made from the famous Karystian slate, ideal for enjoying meals or an afternoon drink. The surrounding perennial olive tree and bougainvillea enhance the scenery.

The Red House offers its guests the magic of both morning and evening sun with its eastern and western verandas, featuring comfortable seating arrangements. Two mulberry trees stand right in front of the east veranda next to a large pine tree that enhance the lush greenery of the lawn. The Karystian dry-stone walls on the north and east sides of the outdoor spaces are works of art in themselves.
